Crepes are a truly versatile food. Pack on the proteins and vege and you have yourself a main dish. Slather on the ice cream and syrup and it becomes a dessert. Crepes first originated in Brittany, Northwest France, and basically means ‘pancake’ in French. It is now a well known and loved dish around the world and Malaysia offers a wide array of choices for crepe lovers. Here are 8 must try places for crepes around Klang Valley.

 

1. Strangers at Forty7

Strangers at Forty7 burst onto the culinary scene in July 2014 and has garnered a steady cult following among crepe lovers. Known for both its savoury and sweet crepes, it also strives to create new seasonal dishes to complement festivities and just change things about a bit. Choose from the list of savoury crepes (complete with punny names like Shore To Please, Not Your Local Beef, A Hen’s Crush) to quell that hungry tummy of yours or if it is your sweet tooth that needs satisfaction then browse along the list of sweet crepes which has the conventional chocolate and vanilla ice cream to the more oriental offering of Japanese sweet potato, coconut sago and gula melaka. Price start from RM9 to RM13 for the sweet crepes and RM17 to RM24 for the savoury ones. They are open from 11am to 10pm and are closed every Tuesdays.

2. La Creperie de Caroline

The choices that are available here makes you keep wanting to come back to try them all. Started in 2013 by French entrepreneur Caroline Broutin this Bangsar eatery has been winning many patrons over with its authentic and extensive range of offerings. With close to 50 types of crepes, both sweet and savoury, the diner is spoilt for choice. Throw in the awesome hospitality shown by the waitstaff and we have ourselves an unmissable location. Prices start from RM10 and they are open from 11am to 12am daily.

3. Salon Du Chocolat

As the name rightly suggests, this is basically a chocolate lounge where you come to get your chocolate fix. All of their crepes revolve around chocolate as the main ingredient with variations to the filling. The chocolate toppings are generous and aesthetically pleasing. More importantly the quality and taste of the chocolate is second to none. Prices range from RM14.90 to RM39.50 and you can find them at Publika Solaris Dutamas.

 

4. Coffee Ritual

If you are up for something more unique, Coffee Ritual is the place to be. Situated in the ever so artsy Publika, Coffee Ritual is known for their coffee and signature crepes. Topped with mixed fruits and a scoop of vanilla ice-cream, each element complemented one another with every taste. Their coffee does no falter in taste either. One can’t help but awe at their coffee which are made with 19th century design coffee makers, known as the Balancing Syphon (and they look pretty bad ass too).

They are open from Sunday to Thursday at 8am-10pm, then Fri & Sat at 8am-11pm.

 

5. Shimino Japanese Crepes

Fancy having crepe but don’t have the time to sit and eat? You can look out for Shimino stalls at various malls around Klang Valley which includes 1 Utama, Pavillion and Sg.Wang. They offer up a selection of sweet and savoury crepes on the go with fillings such as mango, banana, pineapple, kiwi, teriyaki chicken and sausages. Aside from that, Shimino also serves siphoned coffee which would make an excellent combination with their specialty crepes. Prices start from an affordable RM6 onwards.

6. Hokkaido Ichiba

Hokkaido Ichiba is one of those Japanese restaurant which is slightly of the ‘atas’ side as compared to your other stores. However, they serve a variety of crepe/ice cream combinations from their dessert menu. A popular choice is the macha crepe, with green tea ice cream and azuki beans. Prices start from RM9.80 onwards and they are open daily from 10am to 9pm.

7. Evelyn’s Chocolate House

Evelyn’s Chocolate House offers a variety of, well, chocolates! From waffles, to crepes, truffles, ice creams and of course beverages, this place is heaven for chocolate lovers. Located in One City USJ Subang, this place boasts a diner-like experience with a rock-and-roll theme. They are open daily from 10am to 10pm.

8. Copper Modern European Restaurant

Newly opened Copper Restaurant is located on the 5th floor of Menara Shell, which is within close proximity of KL Sentral. Transport is definitely not an issue to taste their appealing and scrumptious crepes, which are laden with citrus slices, nuts and caramel. This tasty treat is priced at RM15 and Copper is open from 7.30am-5.30pm on weekdays, 9.00am-2.00pm on Saturdays, and closed every Sunday.
